A public-company COO has six meetings before noon. Each one requires different context. The time spent assembling that context often exceeds the meeting itself. There is no one whose job is to carry it forward.
A growth-stage CEO makes twenty-plus decisions per week with downstream consequences that compound. A Chief of Staff exists. The Chief of Staff cannot scale the work, because the work is not scalable by a person.
A fractional Chief of Staff serves three engagements simultaneously. Three decision owners. Three relationship maps. Three sets of commitments in flight.
These are not edge cases. This essay walks through each of them and makes a single argument: the executive function is a discipline, not a job title. It has been missing a system built for the discipline it actually is.
