Turns the general category into a specific buyer, and that buyer is a pair: the Decision Owner who holds the budget and the mandate, and the Context Integrator who holds the daily practice. The essay that hands a leadership team the frame they need to explain to their CFO why this line item exists.

A COO at a mid-market manufacturer sits where every function meets. On a Wednesday morning: a capital allocation question from finance, a customer escalation that three plant managers have weighed in on differently, a staffing decision that turns on a commitment made three weeks ago in a meeting she was not in. The context she needs is scattered across seven tools, four inboxes, and two people in different time zones. Assembling it takes longer than the meetings do, and no one's job is to do it.
A CEO in freight and logistics has a different variable: decision density. Twenty or more real decisions a week, each setting off work that compounds across the quarter. He has a Chief of Staff, and the Chief of Staff still hits a wall, because carrying an executive's context is bigger than one person can hold, no matter how good that person is.
A fractional Chief of Staff serves three companies at once. Three decision owners, three sets of priorities, three webs of relationships and open commitments. She cannot live inside any one company's tools, so she rebuilds the picture in her own head every time she switches clients.
Three roles, one shape. This essay argues that the executive function is a discipline rather than a job title, and that serving it means serving two buyers who need each other. The Decision Owner holds the budget and the mandate. The Context Integrator holds the daily practice and makes a system real inside the work. Serve one half and the thing stalls.
